About the Society

The Joplin Genealogy Society, founded in 1981, has research materials from all states, but mainly Jasper and Newton counties in Missouri. The organization's members are continually searching for additional materials from around the area to expand the library. Donations of historical significance are solicited.

A variety of programs are featured throughout the year at the monthly meetings. These include accounts and stories about the rich history of this area and the families that settled here, as well as teaching sessions for those interested in learning about genealogical research methods. The meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm, and are open to the public. Feel free to join us as we learn about our historical roots!

The library is staffed by qualified volunteers who are available to aid patrons doing research. Searches are also conducted for persons unable to visit the library (see below). Should you you plan to visit us when travelling, please call or email and arrange an appointment. We would gladly provide volunteer staff help, and can open the library at other times to aid you with your searches.
